Färsna Sillen

A take on a traditional Swedish embroidery design using the famous red and blue combination.

A lot of my inspiration for this piece came from the book “Svenska Broderier” by Ingrid Eggimann-Jonsson.

I was most heavily influenced by Anundsjösöm, a style of stitch which incredibly originates from just a single person, Brita Kajsa Karlsdotter from Näs in Anundsjö Parish, Ångermanland. You can read more about this amazing woman here.

The original photograph was taken at Färsna Gård in Norrtälje which is run by Norrtälje Nature Center foundation. The animals are owned and looked after by Färsna 4H and their volunteers. Lately they have been struggling with funding to keep going, if you wish to help support them, you can do so here.
